KINtsugi class

There are two types of kintsugi: traditional kintsugi and modern kintsugi. Traditional kintsugi uses urushi(japanese lacquer)and pure gold powder and is a slower process that takes longer and finishes more beautifully. modern kintsugi is a new method using epoxy and brass powder for a quicker finish. This is recommended for those who want to experience Kintsugi easily.

thank you for interest in kintsugi classes.

Our next traditional kintsugi class will resume in September 2025. Please check back soon or join our mailing list to be notified.

Please note: We are not offering any modern kintsugi one-day class at this time. Thank you for your understanding.

Traditional kintsugi class

  • Please read carefully before registering for a class involving traditional kintsugi.

We use urushi, a traditional Japanese lacquer made from the sap of the urushi tree. While it is a beautiful and durable natural material, it can cause allergic reactions (similar to poison ivy) in some individuals upon skin contact.

    ⚠️ Important Health Note:

    • Reactions can include redness, itching, swelling, or blistering.

    • Symptoms may appear a few hours to a few days after exposure.

    • Sensitivity varies from person to person — even those without a history of allergies may react.

We take all reasonable precautions during class, including the use of gloves and careful handling. However, we cannot guarantee that allergic reactions will not occur, and we cannot be held liable in the event of any skin irritation or related symptoms.

Waiver Acknowledgment (for form or in-person signature)

Before participating in any kintsugi class, you will be asked to sign a waiver stating that:

    • You understand the potential risks of working with urushi.

    • You participate voluntarily and at your own risk.

    • You release the instructor(s) and studio from liability in case of any allergic reactions or injuries.

A digital waiver form will be provided at registration, or a paper version will be available on the first day of class.
